FREE Social Media Event in its 6th Year

PodCamp Pittsburgh 6 Schedule Announced

September 6, 2011, Pittsburgh, PA …Back for its 6th installment, PodCamp Pittsburgh is scheduled to open its doors on September 17th and 18th at Point Park University.  With a kick-off meet n’ greet event on Friday, September 16th at Alpha Lab, the event will welcome hundreds of social media users.  This year’s schedule of sessions has been announced, and looks to be filled with sessions geared toward everyone from the most basic beginner to the advanced user of social and new media.

PodCamp Pittsburgh started out as an UnConference for podcasters – but has grown over the past five years to include sessions aimed at helping all sorts of groups, from teachers to students, and from businesses (both nonprofits and corporations) to consumers.

“Many of the sessions this year focus on a variety of uses of social media.  We have retrospective sessions chronicling the growth of a personal podcast into a business venture.  And, we have sessions relating to family issues, such as how to deal with bullying on the internet,” said Norm Huelsman, one of the main organizers of the event. “By encouraging local social media users to submit their own session ideas, we can help keep our content current and applicable to the changing needs and interests of the community.”

PodCamp Pittsburgh is part of a larger community of PodCamps held worldwide. While governed by a loose set of rules and guidelines, PodCamps depend on volunteers to organize, fund, and execute each UnConference.

“It’s amazing to be part of something so amazing,” noted Huelsman. “Where else can people attend a weekend-long event, for free, with access to all of the information we offer?”
